A Magnificent, Hiking Route to the summit of the gighest mountain in the Cyclades. Aghia Marina - Top of Mount Zas - Aghia Marina.
The Mountain of Zeus (Zas for the locals) boasts the highest summit in the Greek Archipelagos (1004m). The mountain holds its name from the Greek mythology god Zeus - the god of the sky and king of the Olympian gods since the cave on the mountain was believed to be his birthplace.
The route starts from the little church of Agia Marina and while ascending the trail route you come across an ancient greek old inscription that translates to "Mount of Zeus, Protector of the Sheep".
The route continues to the west from where you can see the split landscape by high stone walls, an old way (but proven) way to indicate lines of the property. Starting to reach the summit, the route turns to the southeast having a long gradual incline while in the last hundred meters, the trail path turns to limestone.
Once you reach the summit, enjoy the breathtaking 360 view of the Aegean Sea and the islands near to Naxos. If you are lucky enough and the sky is clear, the view can reach Santorini island.

A nice hike but too many people at the top posing and taking selfies. I despise this new generation. Just enjoy the moment!
