Mount Zeus, also known as Mount Zas, is a majestic mountain standing at 1004 meters (3294 feet) and is considered the highest and most iconic mountain. Overall, not just in Naxos, but in all of the Cycladic islands. Legend has it that the mountain was named after the king of the Olympian gods, Zeus, who have been raised in its vicinity according to Greek mythology. Hikers embarking on the journey to the top of Mount Zeus will be treated to a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea and the neighboring islands. On clear days, the view stretches as far as the coastlines of Santorini and Anatolia coast.

The slopes of the mountain are also rich in flora and fauna, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers and botanists. One of the highlights of the hike is the opportunity to witness the famous and protected vultures of Naxos soaring around the peak of Mount Zas. The hike begins and ends at Filoti, the largest village in Naxos, and is a loop trail that can be hiked in two ways. At the western side of Mount Zas, hikers will have the chance to visit the unique Cave of Zeus, which boasts impressive stalactites and stalagmites that exhibit unique geological interest. After a day of adventure and exploration, a traditional lunch at Filoti awaits hikers to cap off their unforgettable experience on Mount Zeus.
